DREAMS ABOUT DREAMS
21 x 18 “Acrylic & airbrush with resin on canvas
Veena Chandran

«I see the world in lines and planes. A mish-mash of shapes interplaying with each other, coming together to create a tangential universe. This is where I dwell, where I sculpt and mould clay.

In this universe, clay feeds my soul. A main source of my inspiration has always been nature.

I strive to re-create the earthy tones I find in soil and rocks. The intricate network of cracks on the surface of dry parched earth or the way trees bend, curve and arch; completely enamours me. Using nature itself as my medium in the form of clay, I try to express these everyday visuals.

And in that moment a part of me gets captured in clay and finds a voice.»

Veena is a Bachelor of Architecture, and has trained in ceramics from Golden Bridge Pottery, using wood and Anagama firings. She has since set up her ceramic studio «Studio Farishtey», and is a visiting lecturer at architecture colleges in Pune.

The artists in the Ceramic Spectrum 2016 have varied approaches to clay — the basic material of all ceramic production. While some develop the vessel form, others explore new ideas. The inspiration, content and the context within which they locate themselves are wide-rang-ing, reflecting their individual aesthetic concerns.
